About Supreme Release Yoga (SRY)
The nourishing practice of Supreme Release Yoga (SRY) offers deep rejuvenation through an internal undoing of accumulated physical, mental, and emotional tension. By doing less, we turn our awareness inward, allowing ourselves to let go, surrender, and release the habitual gripping that comes with the body’s natural stress response.
SRY incorporates supported yoga asana (postures) using yoga props and sometimes your hands and arms designed to position the body in specific angles that encourage inner alignment and deep muscular release—especially in the pelvis and spine. Creating spaciousness in these regions fosters a greater sense of stability, helping you feel more anchored within.
A typical class often follows a bottom-up approach, beginning with the release of tension in the muscles attached to the tailbone and sacrum. We then guides the release upward through postures that nourish the psoas, ribcage, and heart space.
This gentle but very deep practice is especially beneficial for people with joint hypermobility/laxity, back and/or hip pain, full and busy lives, or an overall sense of depletion.
Classes also include pranayama utilizing the breath and guided awareness to promote deep rest and integration.
For this practice, you’ll need a cushioned surface such as a yoga mat, a bolster (or 2-3 blankets), at least 3 additional blankets, and 2 blocks. If you’re attending in-studio, all props are provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own.
Classes are offered both in-studio and online via Zoom. If joining from home, you’ll need something to elevate your legs to resolve arching in your waist—such as a chair, ottoman, couch seat, or stacked blankets.
