About Supreme Release Yoga (SRY)

The nourishing practice of Supreme Release Yoga (SRY) is one of rejuvenation that allows for an internal undoing. We live in a society that causes us to “overdo” in many aspects of our life, leading to physical, mental, and emotional tension. In doing less we can turn our awareness inwards and begin to let go and surrender. We can de-condition ourselves from the internal gripping that comes with the body’s natural stress response.

SRY includes soft, gentle, and supported yoga asana (postures) that position the body in particular angles to promote an inner alignment that allows for deep release of muscular tension, with an emphasis on the pelvis and spine. When you create more spaciousness in these regions, you can cultivate a general sense of stability and feel more anchored within.

This style of yoga often takes a bottom up approach where we release tension in the muscles attached to the tailbone and in front of the sacrum. We then carry the release up the spine through postures that nourish the psoas and the region of the rib cage and heart.

Classes also include pranayama utilizing your breath and guided awareness to promote deep rest and integration.

This practice requires a cushioned surface like a yoga mat, bolster (or 2 – 3 blankets), 3+ blankets, and 2 blocks. For those attending in studio, everything you need is there but if you have your own props that you’d prefer to use you are welcome to bring them.

Classes are taught in studio and also online through Zoom. If you are joining us from home, you will need something to elevate your legs that resolves arching in your waist, like a chair, an ottoman, the seat of a couch, or stacked blankets.

Supreme Release Yoga ~ Soma: Nectar of Rejuvenation

4-Week Series with Nicole Blackwood

Soma is an inner nectar that replenishes, soothes, and calms your nervous system, whole body, mind, and heart. Anxiety, fatigue, chronic pain, physical tension, reactivity, low immunity, and having a busy mind are all signs of Soma depletion. When you support the flow of Soma, you can build resiliency, cultivate a state of inner stability and calm, support energy balance, and overall wellbeing.

This series will be soft, slow, and restful. We will spend much of our time in reclined positions to soothe the nervous and release spinal tension. It is great for those who are depleted, tired, experiencing physical discomfort, or have an extra full life and need rest and rejuvenation.
