Calm & Cozy Restorative Yoga for the Holidays with Maria Hillier

Meet the holidays this year grounded, calm, and connected to your steady center. Ease stress, tension and fatigue through consciously resting the body and allowing your nervous system to settle and rebalance.

The hustle and bustle of the holidays along with the transition to the cooler days of winter calls us to cultivate our own inner warmth. Get cozy in this supportive and soothing practice including longer-held supportive postures, breath work, and meditation.

This workshop is slow, deeply nurturing and suitable for people of all ages and abilities who are looking to connect to a deeper sense of peace this holiday. 

Space for 10 students in-studio and 10 online via Zoom.  If you have yoga props feel free to bring them, studio props also available.

Props needed are: Bolster, 2 Blankets, 2 Blocks, Chair & Strap/Belt.  If joining online we will give you a list of household items that work in place of studio props.

Class will be recorded and a link will be provided to you after class so you can replay, the link will expire after two weeks.

Therapeutic Yoga: Whole Body Care with Maria Hillier

Nine Week Series

Tuesdays 5:30pm (90 mins)

Therapeutic Yoga: Whole Body Care (9 Week Session) is designed to help you move well, breath fully, and feel good everyday! This nine week series is focussed on supporting everyday movement, easing discomfort, tension and pain, helping you cope with daily stress and anxiety, and creating a space to explore an accessible yoga practice that is unique to you. 

The design of the each weekly class focusses on three different aspects of therapeutic yoga: (1) a focus on anatomy and awareness to help you move and breath well, with techniques of mindful movement to increase mobility and range of motion; (2) the building of overall strength and stability in a kind, gentle way, integrating breathwork, strengthening for the major muscle groups and joints and core awareness and stability; and (3) a focus on ease, release and rest as we practice self-myofascial release, Yin Yoga, and Restorative Yoga to release tension and tightness, hydrate our connective tissues, and deeply rest. Each and every week will include interospective techniques to understand your body better, nervous system support with meditation and breathing practices, and accessible, inclusive and adaptable yoga postures and sequence.

What you will learn:

  • Anatomy of the body including major muscle groups and joints and how we all are unique
  • Common postural and movement habits that may affect everyday movement and how to address these with therapeutic techniques
  • Yoga postures and sequences to improve mobility and range of motion, create stability and strength, and to help with overall ease of movement
  • Yoga tools and techniques to help with discomfort and pain both on and off the mat
  • Yoga tools and techniques to help cope with everyday stress and anxiety and calm the nervous system

What you will receive:

  • Weekly 90 minute classes either in person or online and access to the recorded class for 7 days
  • Recorded videos of shorter classes (10-15mins), PDF guides of yoga poses and sequences, and audio recordings of meditations to support your practice each week 
  • Educational resources (articles and handouts) that cover the theme of each week’s class
  • Small class size to foster community as we move, breath, and learn together
  • The option to complete a personalized intake to express your goals, challenges, and specific healthy considerations 

Offered by Maria Hillier, 500 RYT, Yoga Therapy Student

Classes will be held in the studio (limited to 11 distanced students) and Online Via Zoom. Everyone in attendance (online and in studio) will have 7 day access to the class recording.

Props needed are: bolster, 2 blankets, 2 blocks, 2 massage or tennis balls in a pouch or sock, chair, strap/belt and eye covering (pillow or cloth).
